Appropriate Body Support for Early Career Teachers (ECT)

As of September 2023, in line with DfE guidance, South Tyneside Council can no longer act as an Appropriate Body for new ECTs.

Those schools appointing ECTs post September 2023 should contact the local Northern Lights Teaching School Hub at tshinfo@nllt.co.uk to seek advice about the appropriate body service.

Schools with ECTs currently registered with South Tyneside Council for appropriate body services can continue to receive the support and advice of a dedicated ECT co-ordinator and administrator, where applicable, until July 2024.

This ensures that both the school and the Council meet all the necessary statutory and legislative obligations needed for induction.
