Overview

We want you to be happy working here and a good start will make that easier for you.

This information will help you prepare for your start and get the most out of your Induction.

Before you start

Here are some questions that you can ask your manager, to help you prepare for your start:

  • What should I wear for work?
  • Where can I park?
  • What date and time do I arrive?
  • Who will I meet?
  • Where will I meet them?
  • Where can I have my lunch?
  • What will I be doing in my first few days?
  • Tell me about the team?
  • What training will I get?
  • What tools and devices do I get?
  • What does the Council offer to staff?
  • Who will be my work buddy?

When you start

In most cases, you will meet your manager on your first day. Your manager will help you settle in.

Here are some of the things they will cover with you:

  • talk to you about a car park permit
  • help to set you up on our systems
  • show you where to find helpful information
  • tell you about the Council and your job
  • tell you about training you need to do
  • show you an Induction checklist
  • give you a plan for the first 1 to 2 weeks
  • give you a work buddy to help you.
  • help you meet the team and other key people

Get to know our Council

The Council is large and has many services and we want to help you get to know is better.

That is why you will be asked to come to a half day Induction event.

You will hear from our Chief Executive and a Director. They will welcome you and tell you about our Council.

You will get the chance to ask questions. It is a great way to meet other new starters too.
