About this course

To assist participants' understanding of their role and responsibility in applying the principles in practice of the Mental Capacity Act and how it relates to Deprivation of Liberty (DoLS).


Learning outcomes

By the end of the session, participants will understand the:

  • roles and responsibilities of staff
  • background to DOLS legislation
  • role of the Managing Authority and the Supervisory Body
  • roles involved including IMCA and Paid Representatives
  • "Acid Test" for DOLs
  • link between DOLS and Safeguarding Adults
  • new Liberty Protection Safeguards

Who can attend

Anyone working with children, adults and families in South Tyneside can apply for a place.
