About this course
This training course is for people who have contact with children, young people and their families and need to understand more about effective working with 'resistant' families.
Within this session the Sandstories are used as a unique, visual way of exploring the key elements of child-centred practice when working with resistant and / or neglectful families.
This session provides essential, up-to-date messages from practice, research and Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the session participants will be able to:
- Work effectively with 'resistant' families
- Recognise and challenge 'disguised compliance'
- Wrestle with the decision, "how long should we keep trying with this family?"
- Recognise the impact of fear and stress (including domestic violence) on the survival and resilience of infants
- Recognise the role of child development knowledge and attachment theory in child centred practice and insightful assessment
- Understand and embed the lessons from serious case reviews and other case review processes (including those using 'systems' methodology)
- Strengthen the resilience and 'wisdom' of the workforce through reflective practice
