About this course

This course is designed to give delegates an awareness of the issues they might come across in relation to domestic abuse.  Course participants will become familiar with various aspects of domestic abuse, from understanding what domestic abuse means, to being able to recognise signs of abuse and recognising what agencies can provide support.


Learning Outcomes

By the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • Understand what is meant by domestic abuse
  • Understand the dynamics of domestic abuse
  • Understand how to respond to disclosures of domestic abuse
  • Understand the controlling behaviours of perpetrators of domestic abuse
  • Understand how domestic abuse can affect different communities in different ways
  • Have a working knowledge of support services, procedures and referral pathways that can help to support victims /survivors of domestic abuse
  • Understand the impact of domestic abuse on victims /survivors and their children
  • Understand the barriers to seeking help and why people do not leave abusive relationships
  • Feel more confident in dealing with domestic abuse
