Carers Encouraged to Share Their Views

Adults in South Tyneside who provide unpaid care to families and friends are being encouraged to complete a carers' survey.

The survey is being run by the Directors of Adult Social Services in the 12 local councils across the North East and is aimed at finding out what support unpaid carers need and what would most make a difference to their lives.

Vicki Pattison, Director of Adult Social Care at South Tyneside Council, said: "If you're one of the thousands of people across the North East who helps look after relatives, friends and neighbours in their own homes, we'd like to hear from you. 

"You might help an elderly relative with their shopping or meals - or it might be even more personal care, like dressing, bathing or with their medicines.

"You might help an adult with learning disabilities in living a fulfilling and independent life out in the community. Or you might be providing support for a friend or neighbour who is facing difficulties with addiction.

"Whatever the kind of care you provide, and whoever it is for, this survey will help us understand the issues and challenges you face, so that we can support you better.

"The care you provide is invaluable, so thank you for everything you do."

She added: "We recognise that there are many young carers who equally provide invaluable support and they will be the focus of a future consultation about how we can provide better support."
