Efforts to tackle the issue of coastal erosion will be discussed at a community meeting next week.

Residents who live in the East Shields and Whitburn area of South Tyneside can hear what is happening in their neighbourhood at the next Community Area Forum (CAF)

Members will be told about coastal erosion at Marsden Bay and the risk it poses to residents and visitors to the area. They will also learn about proposed short-term and long-term measures to be put in place as a result of this issue.

Chair of the CAF, Councillor Alex Donaldson, said: "South Tyneside Council is working in partnership with The National Trust to develop a solution to this issue.

"Our coastline is one of the Borough's best assets and our main priority is ensuring that the area remains safe for all residents and visitors.

"I look forward to discussing how the measures will be implemented at the meeting."

Members will also hear about the council's pledge to do all it can to become carbon neutral by 2030.

The meeting will be held on Thursday 9 January at 6pm at St Gregory's Church Hall, South Shields. Members of the public and press are welcome.
