An event to help carers in South Tyneside find out about the help and support available to them is on offer this week.

To mark Carers' Rights Day, the Council's commissioned service, South Tyneside Adult Carers Service, (STACS) is holding an information event this Thursday (25 November). The event will take place at the Salvation Army Building, 1st floor, Wawn Street, South Shields between 10am and 2pm.  There will be workshops on carers' assessments at 10am and a session on lasting power of attorney at 11am. There will also be a benefit advisor on hand for any enquiries. To book a place call STACS on 0191 4061531.

The Council has become a member of Carers UK Employers for Carers which gives employers and employees with a caring role access to digital resources providing information and support. A launch event for all small and medium sized employees is taking place this Thursday (25 November) online at 2pm. To find out more, visit www.southtyneside.gov.uk/carers

Councillor Anne Hetherington, Lead Member for Independence and Wellbeing, said: "Caring for a family member, friend or neighbour can bring all kinds of challenges and we recognise that the pandemic has been a particularly difficult time. However, having access to the right information at the right time can make all the difference.

"We want every carer to know where to turn to for advice and support and are proud to mark this important day.

"Carers perform an incredibly valuable role in our communities and, in line with our priority of supporting vulnerable communities, this is our opportunity to make sure they know they are not alone."
