Press team , 08 November 2021 11:19

A range of activities and events are being held next week in support of Safeguarding Adults Week (15 - 21 November).

The Council is lighting up the Town Hall purple to mark the week and raise awareness that safeguarding adults is everyone's responsibility.

Councillor Anne Hetherington, Lead Member for Independence and Wellbeing, said: "All adults have the right to be protected from abuse, harm and neglect regardless of their age, ability, gender, race or religion.

"The South Tyneside Safeguarding Children and Adults Partnership is supporting this week with the aim of raising awareness of the issue and increasing people's confidence to spot the signs of neglect or abuse and reporting concerns."

Each day of the week the Partnership will focus on a different safeguarding theme with the aim of upskilling people in topics which include online safety, financial abuse, domestic and mate and hate crime.
