School crossing patrols

South Tyneside Council provides school crossing patrols to assist children on their journey to and from school.

The aim of the role is to control road traffic and escort school children and adult pedestrians safely across the road.

Key tasks of the role include:

  • educating school children in the correct procedure for crossing at the crossing location
  • identifying and reporting any hazards at the school crossing point to the Road Safety team
  • reporting any accidents to the Road Safety team
