Library Book Returns Welcome

Press team , 15 June 2020 14:28

Library users with books to return can now use new drop off points being set up across South Tyneside.

South Tyneside libraries closed in March in line with Government guidance to prevent spread of coronavirus. Since then, library users have been unable to return any books.

New designated drop off points are being made available from Wednesday 17 June to give book borrowers the opportunity to return books safely, if they wish to do so. No fines are being incurred for overdue items.

The drop off points will be sited outside the main entrances of libraries at:

The Word:

  • Wednesday 17 June, from 9.30am to 1pm;
  • Wednesday 24 June, from 1pm to 4pm

Hebburn Central:

  • Friday 19 June, from 9.30am to 1pm;
  • Friday 26 June, from 9.30am to 1pm

Jarrow Focus:

  • Monday 22 June, from 1pm to 4pm;

Cleadon Park:

  • Tuesday 23 June, from 9.30am to 1pm.

Simply place books in the book bins provided. No other facilities or services will be available on site at this time.

A Council spokesperson said: "These drop-off points will give any library users who wish to return books a chance to do so. They are optional. No fines are currently being charged for any overdue items.

"In the meantime, we continue to follow Government guidance and look to re-open our libraries when it is safe to do so.

"Although our libraries remain closed, library users can still use the range of online services available."

The digital collections give 24hour access to hundreds of ebooks, eAudiobooks and online magazines. They are all free to download.

Library members can access the complete collection of eBooks in South Tyneside's Digital Library from their computers, eReaders, smart phones or tablets. They need a valid library membership and pin number.

Those not already registered as library users, can also still sign up online and begin using the online services straightaway.
