Public health news: South Tyneside Adult Recovery Service
Support for adults affected by alcohol and other substances
Public health news: March 2025
South Tyneside Adult Recovery Service offer a free, confidential and non-judgemental service for people who are affected by alcohol and / or drugs.
We're open to anyone who lives in South Tyneside and is over 18 years old.
Everyone's recovery from an addiction is different. We provide a personalised support programme to help people on their own recovery journey. This is based on the goals the person would like to achieve.
We offer a range of evidence-based interventions designed to support change.
We are based at Cookson House in South Shields but we also provide support from different community venues across South Tyneside.
If you use drugs or alcohol every day and notice withdrawal symptoms when you are not, you should not stop using suddenly. Stopping suddenly can cause harmful withdrawal symptoms. Get in touch with us for support to reduce safely.
As part of our treatment offer we also offer a number of drop in groups including:
- SMART Recovery
- SMART friends and family
- Women's drop-in group
Find out more at Group Programme Information.
We also offer our new Open Doors drop in sessions. These are open to everyone and offer a chance to:
- Ask questions about the service
- Find out how to refer in
- Receive support
These are monthly from 5pm at Cookson House, River Drive, South Shields, NE33 1TL. The next dates are:
- 26 March 2025
- 23 April 2025
- 7 June 2025
- 2 July 2025
