A community meeting awarded funding to a number of projects across the area last week.

At its meeting, Jarrow and Boldon Community Area Forum (CAF) agreed on funding for several schemes including improvements to footpaths and roads, upgrades to car parking facilities and the installation of cycle hoops at Calf Close shops.

Funding from the CAF will also go towards supporting community groups throughout the year.

Chair of the CAF, Councillor Margaret Peacock, said: "These schemes are extremely important for the area and will provide many benefits to both residents and visitors.

"We are pleased to have awarded funding to these worthwhile projects and are sure they will create a positive impact on the community."

At its meeting in April earlier this year, South Tyneside Council's cabinet approved funding totalling just over £1.4million across all five Community Area Forums covering the period from May 2020 to February 2021.

An additional £2,000 of funding has also been provided to each CAF into a separate funding pot to be used for communities' response to Covid-19.
