Breastfeeding prevalence at 6 to 8 weeks
This indicator release shows the rate percentage of infants that are partially or totally breasted at 6 to 8 weeks for 2023 / 2024.
- It shows that South Tyneside has improved with 34.2% of infants being breastfed at 6 to 8 weeks compared to 27.1% last year. This is a continued improvement from 2020 / 2021.
- South Tyneside has a significantly lower rate than England percentage of 52.7% for 2023 / 2024.
Smoking status at time of delivery
This indicator release shows the percentage of mothers smoking at time of delivery for 2023 / 2024.
- This release shows that in South Tyneside, 11.5% of mothers were smoking at time of delivery.
- Note that 2022 / 2023 contained erroneous data creating an incorrect annual figure, considering this South Tyneside continues the downward trend from 2018 / 2019.
- South Tyneside has a significantly higher rate than the England percentage of 7.4%.
Year 6 and Reception prevalence of overweight (including obesity)
This indicator release shows the prevalence of children in Year 6 and Reception who are classified as overweight or living with obesity for 2023 / 2024.
- Year 6 students in South Tyneside have a prevalence of 26.2%. This is significantly higher than the England prevalence of 22.1%.
- Reception pupils [LR1] in South Tyneside have a prevalence of 22.6%. This is statistically similar to the England prevalence of 22.1%. This is a significant improvement compared to 2022 / 2023 where South Tyneside had a prevalence of 27.3%.
Successful completion of drug treatments
This indicator release shows the number users on opiates and non-opiates that have left treatment successfully as a percentage in 2023.
- In South Tyneside 5% of opiate users successfully completed treatment. This is similar to the England percentage at 5.1%. This is also similar to the previous year where South Tyneside had 4.8% of opiate users successfully completing treatment.
- In South Tyneside 25.2% of non-opiate users successfully completed treatment. This is statistically similar to England with 29.5%. This is a decrease from last year where South Tyneside had 31.2% of non-opiate users successfully finishing treatment.
