What they offer
Food Fair will provide residents with the skills, resources, and confidence to source and prepare their own healthy meals.
The project supports South Tyneside Council's Sustainable Food Plan and aims to make healthy food more sustainable, affordable and desirable. Advocacy services are delivered to improve financial resilience.
Poor health, food insecurity and fuel poverty is reducing the life expectancy and general quality of lives for the people of South Tyneside, particularly for those living within areas of high deprivation.
'The Food Fair' project:
- brings communities together using food and health
- provides support via referrals to existing partnership supports such as the Tuesday Drop in at WHiST or support at community shops
- builds knowledge and understanding of the benefits of a healthy, nutritious diet at a low cost
- provides access to a range of resources for residents such as videos, toolkits, web resources and accessible recipe cards
- supports people connect to their exciting and dynamic food heritage
- addresses fuel poverty and environmental sustainability by providing information and equipment to improve energy efficiency
