1. Introduction
This privacy notice tells you about what information we collect about you, how we use that information and who we share it with.
We will keep our privacy notice under regular review and will advise you of any updates via email.
This Notice was last reviewed in July 2024.
2. Who we are
For the purposes of Data Protection legislation, South Tyneside Council is the Data Controller.
This notice tells you how South Tyneside Council may use your information to deliver the Healthy Schools programme.
3. What type of personal information do we collect?
We may collect the following types of personal information:
- Name
- Role
- Workplace Address
- Telephone number
- Email address
4. How do we collect personal information?
We may collect your personal information in a number of ways, for example:
- In person
- In writing - for example letter or email
- Telephone calls
- Online forms
5. Why do we collect your personal information?
We collect your personal information to allow us to provide services to you in accordance with the Healthy Schools Network. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Recording of Healthy Schools Award accreditation status of your setting.
- Notification when your accreditation is due to become out of date.
- Support with the accreditation process (every 3 years).
- Invitations to attend termly Healthy Schools network meetings either in person or virtually.
- Addition to the mailing list to receive monthly newsletters, and any other time-sensitive correspondence relating to Healthy Schools.
- Occasional requests to engage in research opportunities (eg online surveys) in relation to Healthy Schools topic areas.
6. Who might we share your personal information with?
We will not share your personal information with any other third parties unless you have specifically given us permission to, or if we have a legal obligation to do so.
7. How long will we keep your personal information?
We will hold your personal information for as long as you are the identified Healthy Schools lead for your setting, or for as long as you wish to remain on the mailing list, after this time your information will be deleted.
8. What is our legal basis for using your personal information?
To use your personal information there must be a lawful basis to do this, such as, through a contract, performing a public task or where there is a legal obligation.
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information are:

9. How do we keep your personal information secure?
The security of your personal information is important to us. Information provided is held securely on our network.
The Council have a range of procedures, polices and systems to ensure that access to your records are controlled appropriately.
Only officers working within Healthy Schools have access to these records.
10. Is your personal information used overseas?
We will not process your personal information outside of the UK.
We will not process your personal information outside of the European Economic Area (EEA).
11. What are your rights?
Your individual rights are set out in law. Subject to some legal exemptions, you have the following rights:

- Right to restrict processing
- Right to data portability
- Right to object
- Rights in relating to automated decision making and profiling
