Overview

South Tyneside Council and Sunderland City Council are preparing a new Area Action Plan (AAP) to replace the current International Advanced Manufacturing Park (IAMP) AAP.

We need to update the AAP:

  • to make sure it is in line with the recently announced North East Investment Zone
  • to improve the flexibility of the document to make the most of any new inward investment opportunities

Between 29 July and 23 September 2024 we carried out a consultation on the first draft of the new plan (known as Regulation 18).

Both councils considered comments (representations) we received, along with other material planning considerations.

The draft IAMP AAP was then updated into a Regulation 19 draft document.

We held a 6 week (Regulation 19) public consultation, between 31 March and 12 May 2025, to ask your thoughts again on the proposals and the 'soundness' of the plan.

We are now reviewing representations received.

Once adopted, the new AAP will form part of the statutory Development Plan for both South Tyneside Council and Sunderland City Council and replace the existing IAMP AAP.
