Content:
Spelling is a transcriptional skill, which all children need to get to grips with. However, many of our schools are still finding this an issue across all year groups. As mentioned in the most recent English Subject Report, spelling needs to be explicitly taught. This CPD will enhance your knowledge and understanding in how to teach spelling effectively to children from Year 1 to Year 6, in line with the requirements of the National Curriculum.
Expected Impact on Schools:
- Develop strategies and approaches to improve children's spelling in line with National Curriculum requirements
- Explore how children learn to spell effectively and the implications of this for teaching practice
- Investigate how words came into the English language and how a focus on morphology and etymology can not only improve children's understanding of how words are spelt, but also their meaning
- Linking spelling to reading, writing & vocabulary
- Support the development of classroom environments and routines in order to support all children to learn to spell effectively
Target Group:
- Teachers
- Support Staff
- ECTs
