Free Fun and Food This Easter

Press Team , 15 March 2024 09:26

Free food and fun activities for eligible children and young people will make a welcome return to South Tyneside during the upcoming Easter holidays.

Run by South Tyneside Council and its partners, the programme is funded by the Department for Education.  The activities are free for those aged five to 16 and up to 18 for SEND young people who are in receipt of benefit-related free school meals.

Running between Tuesday 2 April to Sunday 14 April, the activities allow young people to try a range of different activities and enjoy a nutritious meal at each event.

Some of the activities on offer this time are drama games at the Customs House, including tickets for their Easter Red Riding Hood pantomime, skateboarding and scooting at Override indoor skate park, water activities at South Shields Surf School and evening climbs at Simonside Climbing Wall.

Councillor Adam Ellison, Lead Member for Children and Families' Social Care, said: "I am delighted that we are once again able to run these activities in collaboration with our partners as I know how much they are valued by so many families in these challenging times.

"The school holidays place an additional financial strain on families whose budgets are already stretched so it's fantastic that these clubs can ease that burden and keep children well fed and entertained when schools are closed."

Places for the activities must be booked in advance as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Bookings go live on Monday, 18 March at 4pm. To find out more about the activities on offer  or to book a place visit  www.southtyneside.gov.uk/holidayclub or email HAF@southtyneside.gov.uk.
