a better u training

The a better u training is delivered by First Contact Clinical. It is a modular training programme to support and improve a healthy lifestyle approach. It also teaches approaches to prevention.

The training programme in South Tyneside has helped over 4000 people to have 'Make Every Contact Count' (MECC) conversations with others. These conversations enable them to make healthier choices and improve their own health and wellbeing.

The training improves the knowledge of the workforce, volunteers and community members. It gives them the skills to confidently deliver brief interventions and support behaviour change. Topics covered include:

  • Smoking,
  • Alcohol,
  • Obesity,
  • Mental health, and
  • Sexual health.

The Make Every Contact Count (MECC) module forms the foundation level.

Attendees can then progress on to further modules to build on their knowledge and support behaviour change conversations in other key public health priority areas.
