Sexual and Reproductive Health Profile

The latest update of the Sexual and Reproductive Health profile includes data for nine indicators. This includes:

  • As of 2022, the rate of individuals prescribed long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) was 35.8 per 1000 in South Tyneside. This was significantly below the North East (39.3) and England (44.1).
  • In 2022, the rate of males under the age of 25 attending specialist contraceptive services in South Tyneside was 2 per 1000. This was significantly below the North East (11.3) and England (12.6). The rate for females in South Tyneside however was 151.6 per 1000, which was significantly above the North East (102.4) and England (84.3).
  • In 2022, the rate of women prescribed injectable contraception at GP services in South Tyneside was 41.6 per 1000. This was significantly below the North East (53.5) and significantly above England (25.8).
  • In 2022, the rate of women prescribed progesterone-only contraception pill at GP services in South Tyneside was 159.7 per 1000. This was significantly lower the North East (165.7) but was significantly above England (130.8).

Alcohol Profile

The latest update for the Alcohol Profile includes data for one new indicator:

  • In 2021, the estimated cost per capita of alcohol-related admissions was £76.2 in South Tyneside. This was more expensive than the North East (£62.2) and England (£48.6).

 

Wider Determinants of Health

 

The latest update of the Wider Determinants of Health Profile includes new data for five indicators. This includes:

  • In 2022 / 23, the rate of violent offences in South Tyneside was 39.2 per 1000. This was significantly better than North East (41.5) and significantly worse than England (34.4).
  • In 2022 / 23, the rate of sexual offences was 3 per 1000 in South Tyneside. This is comparable to the North East (3.6) and the same as England (3).
  • In 2022 / 23, the rate of households in temporary accommodation was 0.5 per 1000 in South Tyneside. This was comparable to the North East (0.6) and was significantly better than England (4.2).

 

Health Improvement Domain

 

The latest update of the Health Improvement Domain includes data for sixteen indicators. This includes:

  • In 2022 / 23, the percentage of physically active children and young people in South Tyneside was 42.4%. This was not significantly different to the North East (48.4%) and England (47%).
  • In 2023, the percentage of eligible women in South Tyneside who had attended a breast cancer screening was 69.6%. This was significantly better than the North East (67.1%) and England (66.2%).
  • In 2023, the percentage of eligible individuals in South Tyneside who had attended a bowel cancer screening was 72.3%. This was significantly worse than the North East (74%) and not significantly different to England (72%).
  • In 2023, the percentage of eligible men in South Tyneside who attended an abdominal aortic aneurysm screening was 78.8%. This was not significantly different to the North East (77.7%) and England (78.3%).

Health Protection Domain

 

The latest update of the Health Protection Domain includes data for one indicator.

  • In 2020-2022, the incidence of TB was 2.2 per 100,000 in South Tyneside. This was not significantly different from the North East (3.0) but was significantly better than England (7.6).
