A South Tyneside nursery has been rated 'Good' by Ofsted for the care it provides to youngsters.

The inspector found the council-run Stanleys in Jarrow to be 'Good' across the board, maintaining its rating from its previous inspection.

The inspector found the 'broad and balanced curriculum' helps all children to learn while staff support children's self-led play.

In her report the inspector said: "Children benefit from supportive relationships with the kind and caring staff. This helps them to feel safe, secure and ready to learn.

"Staff support children's language development well. Children are consistently engaged and busy at play. Staff carefully plan the environment and adapt their teaching to help children to learn more."

The inspector noted that children with special educational needs or disabilities benefit from tailored teaching which supports their learning very well.

The inspector also praised staff for their close working with parents. She noted that they arranged a trip to a local library for children and their parents which had resulted in more families using the library and sharing a wider range of books with their children at home. This helps to build further upon the learning that happens in nursery.

One person who uses the nursery is Sarah Minihinnet. She said: "I have had all three of my children attend Stanleys at Jarrow which has been an amazing experience for all of us.

"The staff are friendly and have a caring approach to looking after my youngest boy. They have helped so much with my children's development with daily activities and encouragement. We are going to miss them as it's our last term here, so big thanks to them all."

Councillor Jane Carter, Lead Member for Education and Skills, said: "Early Years education is so important as it lays the foundation for future learning and success.

"This latest rating is further evidence that we are succeeding in our mission to give all our children the best start in life."
