Share Because You Care About Child Safety

Families are being reminded of the importance of keeping children safe as part of this year's Child Safety Week.

The week, which runs from 7 - 14 June, will focus on asthma awareness, knife crime, accidental poisoning, safer sleep, keeping children safe in sport and other activities.

The campaign, run by the Child Accident Prevention Trust, is being supported by the South Tyneside Safeguarding Children and Adults Partnership. A number of briefing sessions are being held throughout the week and the Partnership will share top tips on how to keep children safe. It is hoped people will share these tips in line with the campaign's theme of 'Share Because You Care.'

Lead Member for Children, Families and Young People, Councillor Adam Ellison, said: "Supporting families is one of the Council's priorities, it is everyone's responsibility to keep children safe. We all have a role to play.

"There is a whole range of information available that we will be sharing on how to keep children safe. Sharing messages around safety saves lives. We are encouraging everyone to spread the word on child safety and to keep sharing it."

Virtual sessions for the launch of Safe to Play, which is aimed at ensuring children are safe at all out of school clubs, will be held on Tuesday 8 June between 1.15pm and 3.15pm and Thursday 10 June, 6pm - 8pm. Parents, carers, grandparents, coaches and activity club leaders are encouraged to join the virtual session. Email STSCAP@southtyneside.gov.uk to register for a place.

People can find out more about safer sleep at a virtual session on Thursday 10 June from 9.30 - 12 noon.  To register for a place, email STSCAP@southtyneside.gov.uk
