Public health newsletter: South Tyneside Young Health Ambassadors

Raising the profile of health and wellbeing for young people.

Public Health Newsletter: September 2023

South Tyneside Young Health Ambassadors (STYHA) are a group of young people with a passion for health and wellbeing.

They represent secondary schools and colleges and are dedicated to making a difference to young people in the borough.

Their role is to provide peer-support to students in school, share important public health information with school leads and promote their own health campaign in South Tyneside.

They also do lots of work outside of the school setting, visiting local health services to help with service design and improvement.

STYHA members attend a mandatory training course at the beginning of the programme to ensure they are confident and competent to provide this service for their schools. They receive certificates and ID cards to reflect their role.

For the school year 2023 / 2024, STYHA are working on a 'mental health podcast' campaign where they will be raising awareness of mental health for young people by talking about various mental health topics with the support of professionals from local service providers!

Recruitment for new members opens in September 2023 and training will begin in October.
