Overview

Groundwork offers study programmes for people with SEND or an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

What is on offer

Groundwork offers personalised study programmes to help you achieve your future goals.

You will be offered work placements / work experience to help you develop your skills for working life and independent living. They also offer function skills maths and English.

Support is personalised to you to make sure that you succeed.

You will also have the opportunity to take part in the NCS (National Citizenship Service) programme.

Enrichment is an important part of the programme and is learner led. In the past learners have:

  • Taken part in social action projects
  • Experienced indoor and outdoor sports and adventure activities
  • Visited museums, galleries and restaurants

Progression opportunities include:

  • Further education
  • Supported internships
  • Apprenticeships
  • Traineeships
  • Voluntary work
  • Employment

They are based at Jarrow Hall (formerly Bede's World) and have a small farm with livestock.

You will have the opportunity for hands on practical work with the animals and around the farm site. Delivery also takes place from our community facility / café at Marsden Road Health Centre.

The programme runs over an academic year from September through to July. Learners attend 4 days a week, 9.30am to 3.30pm.

How to apply

Before you apply, taster sessions will be organised for you to visit the college and get a feel for the course.

Groundwork will then work with you to develop an individual transition programme with you prior to induction to ensure you are supported into enrolment.
