Common tree issues

When carrying out tree works we follow a rule of minimum tree removal where possible, and make sure it is in line with guidance on the general protection of trees and the South Tyneside Tree and Woodland Policy.

Works are sorted into high, medium, and low priority depending on the issue. Trees will be inspected where necessary by a member of the Tree Team.

Living with trees

• Trees or hedges blocking light
• Leaves
• Nesting birds and roosts (including fouling)
• Fallen fruit, berries, nuts or seeds
• Insects and other pests
• Trees in your garden and planting trees
• Schedule of pruning trees

Damage

• Roots causing damage to walls, footpaths or buildings
• Damage to drains
• Damaged or vandalised trees

Obstruction

• Trees affecting public access, highway safety or visibility
• Encroaching branches
• Trees blocking TV, satellite signal, solar panels or phone reception

Dangerous trees

• Trees posing risk of harm
• Trees with rope swing
