Overview

If you want permission to place a temporary or permanent structure over the highway you must apply to South Tyneside Council.

Eligibility criteria

Any temporary or permanent structure over the highway needs permission.

If you have any doubts about whether you will need permission, contact Highways Maintenance on 0191 427 2553 or email highways@southtyneside.gov.uk.


Tacit consent

Tacit consent is where an application is treated as accepted if a reply is not recieved within a certain timeframe.

Tactoc consent does not apply.

It is in the public interest that the Council must process your application before it can be granted.

If you have not heard from the Council within a reasonable period, please contact us. You can do this:


Appealing a decision or condition of the licence

Please contact Highways Maintenance in the first instance.


If you have a complaint

If you have a complaint, we advise that you contact the trader, preferably in the form a letter (with proof of delivery).

If that has not worked, if you are located in the UK, Consumer Direct will give you advice.
