Course aims

  • The Government's Prevent Strategy aims to reduce the number of people becoming, or supporting, violent extremists and is part of the wider UK Counter Terrorism Strategy
  • The Counter Terrorism and Security Bill 2015 has placed a statutory duty on specified authorities, for example the Local Authority, Higher Education, schools etc, to have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism

Course learning outcomes

  • Understand the Prevent agenda and their role within it
  • Have the ability to use existing expertise and professional judgement to recognise potentially vulnerable individuals and know when intervention may be necessary to support them
  • Demonstrate knowledge of when, how and where to refer concerns about vulnerable individuals
