A South Tyneside school where inspectors say 'pupils have positive attitudes to learning' has been rated as 'Good' by Ofsted.

Inspectors agreed pupils at Hadrian Primary School in South Shields were 'highly motivated' and take pride in their school. Pupils behave 'exceptionally well' and leaders are ambitious for every pupil, including those with special needs and disabilities.

The report adds: "Behaviour is outstanding. In the early years, children get off to a strong start because routines are well established. Children play and learn well together.

"Relationships between staff and pupils are very strong. Staff have high expectations for every pupil. Pupils show high levels of maturity and self-control. They concentrate extremely well and work hard."

Inspectors also found pupils' personal development to be strong with students having a strong understanding of cultures and faiths different to their own.

Headteacher Scott Brown said: "The team at Hadrian make our school a safe and caring environment for our pupils and we are delighted that pupil behaviour and personal development have been identified as a strength of the school. We are proud to provide our children with an excellent start to their learning journey, offering stimulating and creative experiences that enhance and inspire.

"I am incredibly proud of the staff who work tirelessly to support our students in achieving high academic standards, whilst developing their self esteem, confidence and resilience in preparation for adulthood. Our children are real superstars and they have helped build a strong caring ethos across our school, which makes it a pleasure to be part of."

Councillor Adam Ellison, Lead Member for Children, Young People and Families, said: "This is welcome news for the staff, leadership, parents and children, for which they must take credit. I know that Hadrian Primary has worked extremely hard to deliver this excellent outcome."
