Christmas Closures for Council Buildings

Residents across South Tyneside are being advised of closures to Council buildings and services over the festive period.

South Shields and Jarrow town halls will close at 12.30pm on Friday 23 December.

South Shields will reopen at 10am on Tuesday 3 January, and Jarrow will reopen on Wednesday 4 January.

The Council's Customer Contact Centre, on (0191) 427 7000, will close at 6.30pm on Friday 23 December and will open on 28, 29 and 30 December. It will close again on New Year's Eve (31 December), before reopening as normal on Tuesday 3 January.

When the Customer Contact centre is closed, an emergency number is available 24/7 on (0191) 455 6111.

Stanleys Day Care and all Children's Centres will close at 12noon on Friday 23 December.

Hebburn Early Excellence Centre, Boldon Children's Centre and Riverside Children's Centre will open as normal on Tuesday 3 January. Ridgeway Children's Centre will reopen on Wednesday 4 January.

All other Children's Centres will reopen as normal on Monday 9 January 2023 and Stanley's Day Care the following day, on Tuesday 10 January 2023.

Simonside Climbing Wall will close at 9.30pm on Thursday 22 December and reopen at 9am on Monday 9 January.

The Word in South Shields will operate from 10am to 2pm on Christmas Eve before closing for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Tuesday 27 December. It will reopen between 10am and 4pm, from Wednesday 28 to Friday 30 December, and from 10am to 2pm on New Year's Eve. The centre will reopen again as normal on Tuesday 3 January.

Hebburn Central Library will also operate from 10am to 2pm on Christmas Eve before closing for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Tuesday 27 December. It will be open between 9.30am and 3pm on 27, 28 and 30 December, and from 10am to 2pm on New Year's Eve. The library will re-open as normal on Tuesday 3 January.

Cleadon Park Library will operate from 9am to 1pm on Christmas Eve, before closing for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Tuesday 27 December. It will reopen between 10am and 4pm, between 27, 28 and 30 December, and from 9am to 1pm on New Year's Eve. The library will re-open as normal on Tuesday 3 January.

Jarrow Focus Library will be open from 10am to 2pm on Christmas Eve before closing for the festive period. The library will reopen as normal on Tuesday 3 January.

Among South Tyneside's leisure facilities, Haven Point and Hebburn Central will only be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. For all other opening times and activity timetables visit www.southtyneside.gov.uk/leisure  

Jarrow Community Pool, Temple Park Centre, Monkton Stadium and Jarrow Focus will all close at 2.30pm on Christmas Eve and will re-open as normal on Tuesday 3 January.

There are no changes to bin collections over the festive period. The Recycling Villageat Middlefields Industrial Estate is open every day from 9am to 6pm, except Christmas Day.
