Focus on Adult Safeguarding Week
A range of activities and events are being held next week in support of Safeguarding Adults Week (21 - 25 November).
The Council is lighting up the Town Hall purple on Monday 21 November to mark the week and raise awareness that safeguarding adults is everyone's responsibility.
Councillor Anne Hetherington, Lead Member for Adults, Health and Independence, said: "Everyone has the right to be protected from abuse, harm and neglect regardless of their age, ability, gender, race or religion.
"South Tyneside Safeguarding Children and Adults Partnership is working in collaboration with Safeguarding Partnerships across the region to support this week through a wide range of events. It is an opportunity for organisations to come together to raise awareness of important safeguarding issues with the aim of starting vital conversations and share best practice, so we can all be better together.
Each day of the week the Partnership will focus on a different safeguarding theme with the aim of upskilling people in topics which include Exploitation and County Lines, Neglect and Self-Neglect, Multi-Agency and Partnership Working, Recognising Abuse and White Ribbon Days. Councillor Hetherington added: "We want to get people talking about this issue and understand that we all have a role to play in creating safer communities. If you see something that concerns you, please report it. The worst thing you can do is nothing."
