Overview

An additional wellbeing provision is now available to all staff.

STC Occupational Health Team (OHT) have recently joined up with SANO Physiotherapy to provide all of South Tyneside Council with a physiotherapy service.

Below is some further information on the service and when and how to complete a referral.

Criteria for referral

  • Off sick with Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) / Injury
  • Accident at Work
  • RIDDOR Reportable
  • In work but high risk of going off sick
  • In work on restricted duties
  • In work with a planned MSD absence (e.g. surgery)

If an employee is off work with an MSD

You should refer an employee if they are off work with an MSD. Early intervention is key and will help reduce the risk of prolonged absence.

Our aim is to support our employee to return to work at the earliest opportunity with the right support.

If an employee is in work with an MSD

If an employee is in work with an MSD and it is impacting on their work, refer straight away. If it is not impacting on work, suggest referral to their GP.

Referring a member of staff

If a referral is needed, managers should complete the Physio referral form and email it to Occupational.HealthReferrals@southtyneside.gov.uk.

The employees' details will then be forwarded to SANO who will be in touch to arrange an appointment.

Any queries regarding referral and appointments must be directed to SANO as Occupational Health will not have access to their diaries.

How many appointments each employee referred will receive

The number of appointments will depend on the individual but the average is 5 appointments (1 assessment + 4 treatments).

Payment for referrals and appointments

Schools will be recharged for all employees they refer, cost is currently £33.50 per appointment.
