Overview

Street Angels is a voluntary group which started in 2012.

With support from Northumbria Police and South Tyneside Council, the team patrol the Night Time Economy of South Shields on Saturday nights. Their role is to help, assist and look out for the wellbeing of all members of the public. They chat, listen and care for all who may be out that night.

Support available

They help with:

  • Picking up glass bottles / glasses and put them into bins
  • Providing flip flops to women who take their high heels off to keep your feet safe
  • Basic first aid
  • Providing bottles of water for people who are slightly intoxicated
  • Providing space blankets during cold nights
  • Staying with people until they either find their friends or in a taxi queue to get them home safely
  • Chatting with homeless people, checking if they need any assistance or help
