Overview

AutismAble study programmes and traineeships are designed to help you develop skills that will help you progress into employment or further training.


Support available 

The programme is designed around your skills and interests and can include the following:

  • English
  • Maths
  • ICT
  • Skills for employment
  • Training and personal development
  • Tutorials
  • A work placement

The work placements on offer help you gain experience that will help you stand out.

The placements can vary from 2 hours per week to 1 to 2 days depending on your timetable and chosen career pathway.

Previous work placements have been with the NHS, Morrisons, South Shields FC and The Customs House.

Within our Skills for Employment, Training and Personal Development course you have the choose to focus on a pathway linked to your future:

  • Business - Business IT and business enterprise. To build on skills that are needed within a business / office environment.
  • Customer Service / Catering - Learning employability skills and what makes good customer service. Part of this course takes place in the kitchen where food hygiene and food preparation skills are taught.
  • Digital Media / Music - Learning music and media skills. Aimed at anyone with an interest in the media, this course explores creative media, performing arts, music, art, crafts, and design. You will learn filming and editing skills ready to create your own production and develop music and recording skills.

You'll also be able to participate in enrichment activities that will help develop your confidence and independence - this includes football, music, art, mindfulness, cooking and exercise.

AutismAble also run a weekly social club which you can join.

People with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) in South Shields, Tyne and Wear.

A visit to AutismAble will be organised to allow you to have a look at the facilities, meet staff members and discuss further about course choices, support needs and taster days.
