Home care

Overview

Home care can help people who need care and support at home. 

It can help with personal care needs like:

  • getting up and going to bed
  • washing and bathing 
  • other tasks like taking medication, which might also be supported with some assistive technology equipment

If you need domestic support, we will help you to look at which options are available to support your needs.

Home care is provided by an agency. This is different to a personal assistant who is employed directly through you.

Request support for yourself, a friend or relative

Our team of trained advisers is here to help guide you to the right support to help you stay independent.

This could include connecting you to facilities and resources that are available in your community, finding care support services that you can arrange yourself, or getting care support from the Council if you are eligible. Email the team at LetsTalk@southtyneside.gov.uk or call 0191 424 6000.

Who will provide your home care

If you get home care from South Tyneside Council, the home care provider you are given will depend on where you live in South Tyneside. 

Four home care providers work in different areas of South Tyneside: 

Hebburn and Jarrow 

If you live in Hebburn or Jarrow, your provider will be Hales Group. 

This includes postcodes starting with:

  • NE31 1
  • NE31 2
  • NE32 3
  • NE32 5
  • NE37 3
  • NE10 0
  • NE10 8

Horsely Hill, Whitburn and Cleadon

If you live in Horsely Hill, Whitburn or Cleadon, your provider will be Dale Care.

  • SR5 1
  • SR5 2
  • SR5 5

South Shields (north)

If you live in South Shields (north), your provider will be Human Support Group.

Boldon and South Shields (south) 

If you live in Boldon or South Shields (south), your provider will be CERA Care.
