About this course

To assist participants' understanding of their role and responsibility in applying the principles in practice of the Mental Capacity Act.


Learning outcomes

By the end of the session, participants will understand:

  • The five principles of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA)
  • The background to the legislation
  • The capacity assessment framework and best interest checklist
  • The role of the decision maker
  • The interface between MCA and other legislation
  • Working with the Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA) service
  • Implementing the MCA and supporting staff
  • Planning a capacity assessment
  • Planning a best interest decision

This is an online course

This course will take place on Microsoft Teams.
