Funding Agreed for Community Projects
A South Tyneside community is set to benefit from funding to improve the community and its surrounding environment.
The West Shields, Cleadon and East Boldon Commmunity Area Forum (CAF) last week agreed funding for 17 schemes including the resurfacing of roads and footpaths and improvements to parking facilities in a number of wards across the area.
South Tyneside Homes has also been awarded funding for projects such as paintwork improvements and repairs to fencing.
Funding from the CAF will also help a number of community groups over the year.
Chair of the CAF, Councillor Olive Punchion, said: "We are delighted to be able to give money to these worthwhile projects which will provide many benefits to residents and visitors to the area.
"Our Forum meetings are specifically for local communities and give local residents an opportunity to find out more about matters affecting their area.
"I would encourage residents to come forward and get involved."
At its meeting in April earlier this year, South Tyneside Council's cabinet approved funding totalling just over £1.4million across all five Community Area Forums covering the period from May 2020 to February 2021.
An additional £2,000 of funding has also been provided to each CAF into a separate funding pot to be used for communities' response to Covid-19.
