Pelaw Quarry Nature Reserve (walking for wellbeing)

A super walk with lots of wildlife to see!

Full description of walk

This walk will take us through Carr-Ellison Park before heading south into the Monkton Community Woodland.

From here, we will join the popular Bowes Railway Path.

The path will take us out into open country before we turn right into the Pelaw Quarry Nature Reserve. Here we'll enjoy wandering the paths through the woods and by the lake, keeping an eye out for wildlife along the way.

After leaving the park, we'll turn north to head back up to the library, as always, sticking to green spaces and quiet streets where possible.

• Total height climbed along the route: 116 ft
• Terrain: Good footpaths (concrete or tarmac) through the town but there are some rougher paths through the nature reserve where it can be quite muddy in places. There are a couple of moderately steep paths in the nature reserve. Walking shoes are recommended.

• Toilets: There are toilets at Hebburn Library. However, there are no public toilets along the walk.
