Virtual Fun for Half Term

Press team , 16 February 2021 08:43

Families in South Tyneside can tap into a range of virtual activities to keep themselves entertained this half term holiday.

While the lockdown continues, South Tyneside Council and its partners are running a range of entertaining activities online so that people can still enjoy the best the Borough has to offer.

Virtual story times and craft demonstrations on YouTube from the Council's library staff are just a few of the resources that will help to stave off boredom.  Online activities from the 'Shiver me Timbers' pirates exhibition at The Word, National Centre for the Written Word, will be available. Age Concern will be hosting musical bingo via Zoom on Wednesday 17 February .

The activities have been promoted on the #LoveSouthTyneside website and on its Facebook page where people are encouraged to promote the Borough and fun things to do.

Deputy Leader, Councillor Joan Atkinson, said: "This year the half term has had to be different from previous years as it is vitally important that people continue to stay at home. The virus is still at large in our communities and, although it is good news that case numbers are slowly coming down, it would be unwise to undo all the good work people have done so far.

"That's why we have put together some suggestions on how people can keep themselves entertained at home. From musical bingo for older people to crafts for people of all ages to make the best of staying at home."
