This course provides delegates with a greater awareness of the risks associated with poor handling techniques and covers safe object moving and handling, as well as providing opportunities to put the techniques learnt into practice. A variety of training methods are employed, including tutor led discussion, individual and group activities and practical work.
The session will cover:
- legal responsibilities
- implications of litigation
- principles of ergonomics
- spinal structure and mechanics
- musculoskeletal injuries
- principles of load management
- importance of team work
- assessment of risk prior to movement
- selecting and use of appropriate aids and equipment
Expected Impact on School/Setting:
By the end of the course delegates will be able to:
- identify injuries and ill health associated with poor manual handling
- identify employee responsibilities with regards to manual handling
- identify the steps in a TILE assessment
- identify safe manual handling techniques
- demonstrate safe manual handling techniques in a variety of situations
