Content:

This course provides delegates with a greater awareness of the risks associated with poor handling techniques and covers safe object moving and handling, as well as providing opportunities to put the techniques learnt into practice.  A variety of training methods are employed, including tutor led discussion, individual and group activities and practical work.

The session will cover:

  • legal responsibilities
  • implications of litigation
  • principles of ergonomics
  • spinal structure and mechanics
  • musculoskeletal injuries
  • principles of load management
  • importance of team work
  • assessment of risk prior to movement
  • selecting and use of appropriate aids and equipment

Expected Impact on School/Setting:

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • identify injuries and ill health associated with poor manual handling
  • identify employee responsibilities with regards to manual handling
  • identify the steps in a TILE assessment
  • identify safe manual handling techniques
  • demonstrate safe manual handling techniques in a variety of situations
