Period Dignity Donation Scheme: Support the scheme
Contents
Overview
Period poverty is increasing across our local community. Requests for period products have risen, while donation levels have fallen.
That's why South Tyneside Council have launched the Period Dignity Donation Scheme, aiming to provide a self-sustaining model of support for women, girls and all those who menstruate in the borough.
We welcome donations from supporters, these can be taken to South Shields and Jarrow Town Hall Receptions, or any of our leisure buildings.
You can also find boxes and donate products directly to our supporting partners WHiST and Bright Futures. Excess products are shared amongst partners to support the wider community.
We want to encourage new locations to join the scheme, to make sure there are boxes in as many places as possible, for support across the borough.
How to set up a scheme in a new location
If you would like to set up a Period Dignity Donation Scheme in a new location, you will need a 'start-up' box of products to put in the toilets.
This can include:
- pads
- tampons
- underwear
- wipes
- personal hygiene products
Use the Period Dignity materials we have provided to spread awareness of the scheme throughout your local area to members of the community, and to encourage your staff to participate and contribute to the scheme.
