A number of services and parades are taking place across the borough to mark Remembrance Sunday (10 November) and Armistice Day (11 November).

Services and parades are taking place on Sunday 10 and Monday 11 November.


Remembrance services in South Tyneside

Remembrance Sunday (10 November)

Westoe, South Shields

  • 10.15am: Parade will assemble on Beach Road at South Shields Town Hall
  • 10.30am: Parade marches off via Westoe Road to War Memorial
  • 10.55am: Service starts

Jarrow

  • 10.20am: Wreaths will be laid at the Memorial in the foyer of Jarrow Town Hall, and at the Memorial outside of Jarrow Town Hall
  • 10.30am: Parade to assemble at front of Jarrow Town Hall - Grange Road
  • 10.45am: Parade marches off via Grange Road to the War Memorial in Station Street
  • 10.55am: Service starts

Hebburn

  • 9.45am: Parade to assemble outside of Hebburn Central
  • 10am: Parade marches off from the front of Hebburn Central, Glen Street to St John's Church
  • 10.15am: Service at St John's Church
  • 10.40am: Parade reforms and marches to War Memorial in Carr Ellison Park with 'eyes left' as the parade passes the Boer War Memorial
  • 10.55am: Service in Carr Ellison Park

Parade reforms and marches to Hebburn Cemetery, Kelly Grave for a short service 

Whitburn

  • 10.40am: Organisations assemble outside of Whitburn Parish Church
  • 10.45am: Parade moves off from Whitburn Parish Church for Service at War Memorial
  • 10.55am: Service starts at Cenotaph

At the end of service, parade reforms and marches back to Whitburn Parish Church for service.

Cleadon

  • 10.50am: Attendees move from All Saints Church, Cleadon Lane, to the Memorial at Front Street, Cleadon Village
  • 10.55am: Service starts

East Boldon

  • 10.10am: Parade will assemble at Grey Horse pub
  • 10.15am: Parade marches off along Front Street, turning right into St George's Church
  • 10.35am: Short service in church
  • 10.50am: Parade reassembles and moves to war memorial
  • 10.55am: Service starts

Boldon Colliery:

  • 10.45am: Meet at the memorial outside Shack Boldon Colliery
  • 11am: Service begins

Armistice Day (11 November)

South Shields

  • 10:40am: Gather at Merchant Navy Memorial outside Customs House in Mill Dam for a service. Leader Councillor Tracey Dixon will lay a wreath.
  • 10:50am:Assemble at War Memorial in West Park South Shields for service. Deputy Mayor Councillor Jay Potts will lay a wreath.
  • 10:15am: Service at St Stephen's Church in Mile End Road. Councillor Sue Stonehouse will lay a wreath.

Monkton Village

  • 10.40am: Parade participants assemble on Monkton Lane
  • 10.50am: Parade marches off
  • 10.55am: Parade arrives at War Memorial and forms up under direction of Parade Marshal
  • 10.55am: Service starts

Mil Dam (no parade / service only)

  • 10:40am: Meet at Seafarers Statue outside The Customs House

West Park, South Shields (no parade / service only)

  • 10:55am: Gather next to bowling greens for the service

Road closures

Temporary road closures and diversions will be in place during the services and parades.

Drivers are asked to be patient when driving to allow the parades to take place safely. Signs will be displayed across the Borough advising motorists of the closures.
