Registering for and logging in to an account

I haven't received my activation email, what do I do?

If you haven't received your activation email please check your junk / spam mail folder.

If you still haven't received an email please contact us on 0191 424 4330 and we will resend your activation email. 

I can't log into my account, what do I do?

If you are having problems logging into your account please check that you are trying to log in with the same email address you gave during the registration process.

This may be different to your Council e-services log in details. 

I have used the 'forgotten password' service but I haven't received an email to reset it?

If you haven't received an email please contact us on 0191 424 4330. You may be asked questions about your Council Tax account or benefit claim to confirm your identity.

Once verified, you will be sent an email with instructions on how to change your password.

I can't log in because I have forgotten the answer to my security question, what do I do?

Please contact us on 0191 424 4330. You will need to provide the email address you signed up with. 

Once your email address has been verified, we will be able to select you a new security question and input the answer that you have provided to us.

I can only see one address but I have set up more than one account / claim?

If you have more than one address they will appear in a drop down menu.

On the drop down menu please click on the down arrow to see a list of the addresses linked to your account.

If your address does not appear in the drop down list, please repeat the process of adding the additional account / claim to your account.

I have recently changed my email address, can I change this online?

Yes - please click on the down arrow next to your email address to the right hand side of the menu and go to 'My Account' in the drop down. This will be the email address you use to sign in to your account.

The email address you use to log in to your account should be the same as the email address you use for e-billing / e-notifications.

Council Tax

I can't see all of my amounts due in the table?

The table only shows 20 rows. If you think you should be seeing more amounts, please contact us on 0191 424 4330.

I have more than one address linked to my account, how do I access my other address details?

If you have more than one address they will appear in a drop down menu. On the drop down menu please click on the down arrow to see a list of addresses linked to your account.

If you can't see your other address details, please check that you have set up more than one address.

I have a query about the information displayed on the screen, who should I contact?

Why isn't my latest bill appearing on the screen in my correspondence?

Bills may have an earlier date based on when they were issued. On the drop down menu please select 'All Issued'.

Why can I only see details of my Council Tax for the last 6 years?

Our online service shows information from your Council Tax account for the last 6 years. If you need to access information from over 6 years ago, please contact us on 0191 424 4333.

E-billing

What is e-billing?

Our e-billing service allows you to view your Council Tax bill online and receive updates about your Council Tax account by email. 

Once you've signed up, you'll also be able to view your Council Tax account online, including any next and previous payments, and access previous bills.

To sign up for e-billing, visit Get your Council Tax bill by email (e-billing).

How do I change my email address?

To change your email address, go to e-billing and enter a new email address under 'Email address'. In the drop down menu select 'Email via URL' and then click Confirm. 

Please make sure that the email address you use for e-billing is the same as the one you use to log in to your account. 

How do I stop receiving my bills by email?

Go to e-billing and select 'Send bills via post' from the drop down menu and click Confirm.

I want to receive my bills by email but it won't let me sign up for e-billing, what do I do?

Please contact us on 0191 424 4330.

I have signed up for e-billing but I have received a paper bill?

Please make sure you clicked on the link in your activation email. You will not be signed up for e-billing if you do not click the link.

If you clicked on the link and still received a paper bill please contact us on 0191 424 4330.
