Overview

The Summer Reading Challenge returns to South Tyneside Libraries.

This year's theme is 'Gadgeteers', where a world of invention and science awaits.

This year's Summer Reading Challenge is in partnership with Science Museum Group and promises to inspire.

What the challenge will include

Join the Gadgeteers and discover an amazing world of science, with ideas for cool experiments and fun activities!

During the six-week holidays, children aged 4 to 11 can collect rewards as they read books from the library.

The challenge will feature:

  • inspiring books to read
  • awesome rewards to collect
  • ideas to get inventive that will unlock your creative side

All children who sign up and borrow a minimum of two books will, when they return their books and borrow another minimum of two books, receive a poster and two sets of stickers.

Once they have completed the challenge, they will then receive the last set of stickers, a pencil and a certificate.

Children can choose from a large selection of books, as long as they are borrowed from the library.

How to join and take part

From Saturday 9 July, children can sign up at their local library and read six books of their choice, and return them before Saturday 17 September to complete the challenge.

It is free to take part and easy to join!

Where the challenge will take place

  • the Council's multi-service hubs (The Word, Hebburn Central, Jarrow Focus and Cleadon Park)
