Overview

This order will come into force on 28 May 2024.

The order includes:

  • revocation of limited waiting restrictions on Lawe Road
  • amendment of no waiting and no loading restrictions on Lawe Road
  • introduction of :
    • pay and display parking on Lawe Road
    • residents permit holder parking on George Scott Street
    • no waiting on any day 8am to 5pm on rear George Scott Street, Rear Lawe Road and Rear Ocean Road

South Tyneside Council (Lawe Road & George Scott Street, South Shields) Order 2024

On 1 May 2024 South Tyneside Council made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all other enabling powers.

The Order which comes into operation on 28 May 2024 will:

Revoke Limited waiting, 2 hours, no return within 4 hours on any day 9.00am to 6.00pm on:

  • Lawe Road east side from a point 19 metres north of its junction with Ocean Road / Sea Road in a northerly direction for a distance of 91 metres

Amend No waiting at any time and no loading/unloading at any time on:

  • Lawe Road west side from the northern kerb line of its junction with Ocean Road in a northerly direction from a distance of 19 metres to 36 metres

Introduce:

No waiting at any time and no loading/unloading at any time on:

  • Lawe Road
    • east side from a point 2 metres south of its junction with George Scott Street in a northerly direction for a distance of 9 metres
    • west side from the northern kerb line of its junction with Ocean Road in a northerly direction for a distance of 36 metres from its junction with George Scott Street in a northerly direction for a distance of 9 metres 
  • George Scott Street
    • both sides from its junction with Lawe Road in a westerly direction for a distance of 5 metres

No waiting on any day 8.00am to 5.00pm on:

  • Rear George Scott Street / Rear Lawe Road
    • both sides for its entire length and
  • Rear Ocean Road (numbers 115 to 125)
    • both sides from its most easterly point to its junction with George Scott Street

Pay and Display Parking 8.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Sunday inclusive except permit holders on:

  • Lawe Road
    • east side from a point 19 metres north of its junction with Ocean Road / Sea Road in a northerly direction for a distance of 91 metres

Residents Permit Holder Parking on:

  • George Scott Street
    • both sides for its entire length 
    • Residents and visitors to properties 1 to 69 George Scott Street and 5 to 15 Lawe Road will be able to park within the area of George Scott Street and Lawe Road with a valid permit. 

Full details are contained in the Order, which, together with a plan showing the lengths of road affected and a statement of the Council's reasons for making the Order, may be inspected from Monday to Friday between 10am and 2pm at the Town Hall, Westoe Road, South Shields, NE33 2RL.

Any person who wishes to question the validity of the Order or any of its provisions on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Act or that any of the requirements of the Act or of any relevant regulations made under the Act have not been complied with may, within 6 weeks from 1 May 2024 when the Order was made, make an application for that purpose to the High Court.
